Physical Disabilities Care
Disabled Home Care
At Abafields Home Care Services, we believe that everybody with a physical disability should be able to enjoy living in their own home and, living their life as fully and as safely as possible.
We understand how important emotionally it is for anyone with physical disabilities to be able to keep their independence and control over their daily life.
This is why we ensure we support those with physical disabilities to continue living in their own home through our bespoke home care services in Greater Manchester, from our specially trained staff.
We also provide the family with peace of mind that their loved one is comfortable and relaxed at home, while still receiving the highest standard of care.
What Is Physical Disability?
Physical disability is usually described as an impairment or limitation to a person’s ability to carry out normal daily activities, such as washing, dressing, communicating, walking, or using their arms and hands for example.
The causes of a physical disability are varied with many people being born with them. Other people will develop them as part of an illness, or through an accident.
As we age, any pre-existing physical disabilities may become more difficult for us to manage without extra help. We may also develop physical disabilities due to a progressive health condition, as is often the case for those with rheumatoid arthritis or neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease.
What Does Care for Physical Disabilities Involve?
The level and types of care someone with physical disabilities will receive depends on the needs and wishes of the individual. Each person is unique, and their care needs are too. Regardless of need, we provide a friendly, compassionate and professional service for all those in our care.
- Appropriate care package
It is important to check that there is an appropriate care package in place. There are nationally established processes we need to follow to ensure this. All care packages are reviewed regularly and updated as often as is needed.
You may need or want our support for only a few hours a week or you may wish intensive 24 hour and live-in care. Here at Abafields Home Care Services, we can provide the care package you need. We do this by:
- Listening to you and continually work with you
To be able to meet your needs and wishes, we know that it is important to listen to and discuss with you all aspects of care and support, and to do this regularly.
- Incorporating what already works
If you have ways of doing things that work well for you and are safe, then we will do our best to continue with these.
- Adapting to new disabilities or changes
There will be times when changes to care may be needed due to a change in circumstances or health. We will make any necessary changes in discussion with you and professional best practices. All changes will be reviewed regularly.
- Preventative care
Prevention of any side effects from a physical disability is extremely important to us.
We recognise that some physical disabilities increase the risks of developing complications, such as damage to the skin from prolonged pressure. Our staff are trained in pressure area management and will work hard to ensure that this risk remains as low as possible through measures such as:
- Regular skin checks for any early signs of pressure damage
- Frequent change of position for comfort and to relieve pressure on high-risk areas
- Assisting with regular standing and walking to improve blood circulation, which will help prevent the breaking down of fragile skin
- The use of hoists and any other appropriate equipment to help protect the skin when moving
- Early increased intervention should there be any signs of pressure damage
- Listening to any concerns you may have and taking any appropriate action promptly
- Regular risk assessments and care plan reviews
We take a similar approach to reduce the levels of risk from all other factors that may potentially affect your health and wellbeing, or that of a loved one in our care.
An example of this may be reducing the risks associated with poor mobility and balance through ensuring the use of walking aids, standing and turning equipment, and supported mobilisation.
- Specialist training and equipment
Some people require additional support due to their disabilities and this may mean the use of specialist equipment, such as hoists and sheet slides for moving in bed or turning equipment such as the Sam Hall range, between the bed and a chair for example.
Our staff have received training on these specialist pieces of equipment and are competent in their use. If a new piece of equipment is needed, our staff will be fully trained in its use before using it with you or your loved one.
Our staff are trained to carry out all of the relevant assessments, including risk assessments and to discuss any findings with you. Working safely and following best practices whilst providing specialist individual care is an integral part of our role.
Our Aims and Values
At Abafields Home Care Services, we aim to make every individual we care for feel comfortable and happy, no matter what stage of their life they’re at or their needs. We work to help maintain or increase independence and quality of life.
We believe that everyone has the right to being cared for in the comfort of their own home, be that from just needing a few hours a week to run some household errands or to provide some company, to intensive 24-hour and live-in care.
We pride ourselves in offering tailor-made services. We do this by working with you and listening to you, as well as ensuring we provide the highest standards of care.
We are here to support you, and to reduce any worries and pressures that you may have about accessing care for a physical disability so that you or a loved one in our care can live at home where they want to be, safely and stress-free.
Whether It’s Round-the-Clock, Live-in Care or Just a Little Help Now and Then, We’re Here to Help
Abafields Home Care Services is a home care agency that specialises in care-at-home services in Bolton and Bury in Greater Manchester, and we have a dedicated team of specialists that are ready to provide the high level of care and support that your loved one deserves.
What home care means is that your loved one can stay and live in the comfort of their own home while they are being cared for, with our care support workers visiting them or staying with them as long as they require.
While many elderly people are opposed to or mistrusting of special care facilities like hospitals and hospices, in-home care allows them to receive the support they need at home while helping maintain their dignity and independence.
